In this video I go over the different types of treble hooks that I like to use and why. So most of today’s baits do not come with trustworthy hooks unfortunately. They often use the least expensive hooks and I do not feel comfortable using them. Most of the time any of the crankbaits, lipless baits, top water walking baits and even popping baits need to have the treble hooks replaced.

I primarily use 3 different types of treble hooks. I use a premium round bend hook, a triple grip, or a finesse light wire round bend. Each treble hook has a purpose and a reason to use it.

I really like the finesse round bends on jerkbaits and the light wire round bends really help get a good hook in the fish when they are swiping at the jerkbaits instead of actually inhaling them. The standard round bends are great for all other baits like topwater baits such as walking baits. Of course my favorite hook type is the triple grip and it really pins these fish most of the time. If you are using the right rod and line you should hook up most of the fish if they are biting at the bait well.

The most popular sizes for my treble hooks are size 2, 4 and 6. I also carry treble hooks in black/bronze and red colors.
