Let’s face it, most of you anglers will probably spool a spinning reel with braid at least one time this year (if not dozens of times). But did you know that there are a couple of important tricks that can save you loads of money, save you time, and help avoid wind knots?

This video on spooling a spinning reel covers it all. And we even took the time to show you how to tie the necessary knots that are needed for a proper spooling.

One of the biggest tips that completely changed how I spool my spinning reels was trying a braid to braid knot for the top 75 yards of line on the reel.

This enables you to keep your original base (which rarely ever gets used compared to the first 75 yards) and means you will only have to replace the top 75 yards of line every time you re-spool.

So a 300 yard spool of braided line will let you respool your reel 4 times instead of just 2. Talk about saving some money (and time).

The other big tip in this video is learning the proper way to have the line coming off the spool. Doing it the correct way will help eliminate line knots and wrapping in the future.
