There’s no one perfect way to hook live baits — it all depends on the current and how you’re fishing them.
In this video, world-record holder Capt. Peter Deeks is sharing two ways to hook live baits in two different scenarios:
1. If you want your bait to swim away freely (like when you’re fishing the flats)
2. If you want your bait to swim down (like when you’re fishing docks and bridges)
If you rig your bait the wrong way for the wrong scenario, or even the right way, but slightly off, you could cost yourself lots of strikes or hooked fish.
And these rigging tips don’t just apply to pigfish and pinfish — you can also use these tips to hook pilchards, mullet, threadfin, and other baitfish.
