Mark Zona is back to share some magical topwater bass fishing secrets with his basshead friends at The Bass University. Am I going to walk the dog, or go with the popper? Throughout a topwater season, I have both tied on a Sexy Dawg (https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_KVD_Sexy_Dawg_/descpage-SKKVDSD.html?from=butv) and a KVD Splash Popper (https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Strike_King_HC_KVD_Splash_Popper/descpage-SKKVDS.html?from=butv). I want to find the bass, to get near the fish quickly. The negative of a popper bait is that it takes time. With a walking bait, I can cover water fast and find the bass. I want to see the fish come up on the lure, to see where they are. Poppers are better from after the spawn until Labor Day, but the walking bait is better for a longer period of time.
