I FINALLY DID IT!!! I shattered my PB smallmouth bass record fishing the Potomac River on a tandem kayak! The day started off in a typical fashion, with Eric and I catching 12-15 smallies up to 12″ using small tubes and swimbaits as we drifted along the river. As the sun started to set, we switched over to topwater lures and that’s when it happened… My 5th cast after tying on a 1/4 ounce popper, I gently popped the bait a couple times, when I noticed a small boil and I saw the bait get ever so slightly slurped under the surface. Immediately I set the hook on my 6’3″ ultralight rod and 6 pound test, and that’s when all hell broke loose XD
