It was an amazing three days! Teams were composed of anglers from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Maryland, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Vermont, & Canada. Over 75 sharks were caught in 72 hours. In the first day of the tournament anglers caught nine sharks that were over eight feet; eight of the nine sharks were over 300lbs and two of the nine sharks were over 400lbs! A total of 11 sharks were caught that were over eight feet. The largest blacktips were both over 150lbs and larger than any previous blacktip caught in the tournament. The Florida state record for a blacktip shark is 152lbs; two of the blacktips caught in the tournament had an estimated weight larger than the Florida state record. Researchers from Nova Southeastern University and St. Mary’s Hospital worked together with the anglers during the tournament in an effort to enhance the medical treatment of shark attack victims.
