Did you know that fiddler crabs make amazing bait for redfish, black drum, sheepshead, and even tarpon. Pretty much all of the major inshore sport fish will inhale a fiddler crab.

The best news is that fiddler crabs are pretty easy to catch once you find them (and they rarely hang out alone – usually if you can find one fiddler crab you can find tons of them).

Regarding how to rig fiddler crabs, the best way I’ve found is to use a jig head so that I have a little extra weight for longer casts. Of course, if you are just fishing for sheepshead directly beneath you, the jig head weight won’t be necessary.

I found that having the following items for catching fiddler crabs:

1) Gloves
2) Small Bucket/Container
3) Sand Flea Rake
4) Net
