In this video, Captain Dylan Hubbard shows you how to catch, vent and release reef fish.

Venting is the process of releasing gas from a bottom fish’s swim bladder, allowing it to safely swim back down to the bottom. Venting is necessary when a fish is experiencing barotrauma, which happens when a fish is brought up quickly from depths of 30 feet or greater.

You can see the full post on how to properly vent bottom fish here: https://www.saltstrong.com/articles/how-to-vent-fish/

Species that require venting:
Grouper
Snapper
Black Sea Bass
Amberjack
Triggerfish

Mistakes when venting fish:
1. Puncturing the Stomach
2. Pushing the Stomach and Other Organs
3. Unecessary Venting
4. Puncturing the Swim Bladder too Deeply
5. Taking too Long and Handling the Fish too Much
