Want to catch more juvenile tarpon in the backwaters? Then you might want to try smaller lures.

As you’ll see in this video, I was having trouble hooking baby tarpon in the backwaters of east Florida, but once I cut my soft plastic in half, I started getting a ton of hookups.

Yep, I literally cut a paddletail soft plastic in half, put it on a jig head (I even had success hooking tarpon using the top half and bottom half of the soft plastic on a jig head), and starting retrieving.

BOOM!

I was getting strike after strike from these baby tarpon. So many times it pays to “match the hatch” (even it means cutting up your bait).

It might not be the traditional way to catch small tarpon but it sure has been working well for me on the baby silver kings this year.

What’s your favorite bait for catching tarpon?
