Today we’re exploring a brand new lake! We caught a flight down to Lake Baccarac in Sinaloa, Mexico. The lake is famous for big bass but virtually everyone fishes with a guide. We got the chance to break the lake down ourselves without any outside help… the only catch is the electronics on the boat didn’t work! Come along as we explore Mexico and catch a bunch of big bass!
The key to any new fishery is to cover water, targeting aggressive fish. If you can find an aggressive bite the learning curve becomes much shorter. Questions about what stage the fish are in, what they’re eating, and what sort of structure they’re using are answered quickly if you’re getting consistent bites. We used a combination of baits with a large presence (swimbaits and topwater) and fast moving baits (squarebills and A-rigs) to catch fish right away.
